Commercial awareness is an understanding of the business you work in, the sectors that your business works with, together with a knowledge of competitors and key business issues. Many businesses see commercial awareness as a key requirement. Staff who understand how the business operates, makes a profit and how the industry as a whole works are most likely to demonstrate a high level of motivation, interest, and focus on the bottom line.

Exemplas has secured European funding under the Skills Support for the Workforce initiative, to deliver a tailored programme of fully-funded training to address the perceived skills gaps that stifle business growth in Hertfordshire.

The programme aims to make apprentices and staff more commercially aware of how they can directly impact on the profitability of the business. In particular, the business benefits that can be gained from staff being more commercially aware.

The programme is available to Hertfordshire-based businesses with fewer than 250 staff (delegates must be aged 19 years or over).

The Programme offers three interactive workshops interspersed with project work and one-to-one support. Learners will develop commercial awareness skills through learning key business concepts and how they can be applied to their role to have a positive impact on the business.

The workshops will cover:
• Understanding business goals and objectives
• Sales and marketing
• Profit and turnover
• The effect of poor quality on costs, reputation and customer satisfaction
• Team working and project management skills
