Nigel Culkin is a Senior Academic Manager at the University of Hertfordshire (UH). Over the past twelve years, he has attracted, in excess of €24M investment to help implement the University’s Enterprise Strategy, which has created a significant number of ‘enterprise’ posts at UH. Nigel’s innovative approach and practical application of that research also contributed to the University of Hertfordshire being awarded Entrepreneurial University of the Year by the Times Higher Education.
He was awarded the title of Enterprise Educator at the UK National Enterprise Educator Awards in 2012; and, in 2014 was elected to the post of President at the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE).
Nigel regularly advises government as an expert on a wide range of issues and recently co-authored the All Party Parliamentary Group - Micro Business in the House of Commons, latest Report, An Education System Fit For An Entrepreneur. In addition, he led the Higher Education Working Group, convened to support Lord Young, in the production of his Report, Enterprise for All. This third, and final report on enterprise was presented to the Prime Minister in June 2014. He is also a Non-Executive Director on a number of profit and not-for-profit early-stage ventures. Exemplas’ and Nigel’s track record of success in stimulating local economies in this way has led to joint consulting projects with Egypt and currently Serbia to set up similar systems in these countries.
